Venus Gates and Jupiter Gates

Venus returns from the underworld (hidden on the other side of the Sun from the Earth's perspective) reborn, starting in mid to late July of 2024. Look for her starting about 20-30 minutes after sunset, above where the sun sets and along the same arc of the sky that the Sun travels. Each month that passes you will see Venus higher and higher in the sky, first quite close to the sunset point and only briefly visible, and eventually much higher in the sky and visible for 2-3 hours after sunset.

The approximate date you will first be able to spot her in the Western sky after sunset will vary depending on your latitude (and sky conditions), but you should be able to see her by mid to late July 2024. To get a more exact date for likely visibility you can check this website for your location.

There is nothing sweeter than going to watch the sunset in a special spot with a friend, and then waiting for who sees Venus first as she emerges from the twilight. Nothing sweeter, except when she is also joined by a beautiful crescent Moon. When this occurs it is called a Venus Gate (also called Rose Gates), and they happen each month in the evening sunset sky seven or eight times, then followed by seven or eight times in the predawn morning sky, and then hidden behind the Sun for two or three months, before again returning to the evening sky.

Here are the dates for the upcoming Venus Gates (date is calculated for when the Moon and Venus are exactly conjunct in the Eastern Time Zone GMT-5). Look for them closest together in the sky on that date, but also sometimes visible close together the day before and day after.

I am also including the upcoming dates for the new Moons that precede the evening Venus Gates by 1-3 days, or follow the morning Venus Gates by the same. There is a deep and mysterious connection between the Venus Gates and the new Moon. They are called gates in part because Venus either opens the gate to the Moon's sanctuary at the end of a lunar cycle in the predawn sky, where we are invited to reflect on and integrate the previous month, or she is on the other side in the post-sunset sky, opening the gate to her rose garden after you have taken time to envision and plan for the month ahead.

It's like Venus helps bring a loving conclusion to each lunar cycle, and also helps us open our hearts at the beginning of each new one. By bringing mindfulness to the days before and after the new Moon, we start to live more in tune with the natural pace of life that is in sync with the Moon. We can feel how we are invited to participate in a process of quieting down and becoming still at each new Moon moment, invited to take a pause to practice both the ending and integration of a cycle, as well as the envisioning and preparing for the new cycle, and invited to do so with love.

Also included here are the dates for the full Moon each month. By bringing awareness, mindfulness, and ritual practice to the pulses of new Moons and full Moons each month, as well as the cycles of Venus, with particular awareness to the months of both evening and morning Venus Gates, we start to live more in tune with the natural cycles of our Earth, our Moon and our relationship with the solar system.

Evening Venus Gates 2022-23

These evening gates are a part of the larger Capricorn Venus cycle that began at the last Venus-Sun interior conjunction at 18 degrees Capricorn 1/08/22.

Jupiter is 8 degrees above the exact Moon-Venus conjunction. This is such a special alignment to bring mindfulness and prayer to, and it should be an incredibly beautiful celestial event. Neptune is also present, though not visible, 8 degrees below the exact Moon-Venus Conjunction. This Venus Gate occurs at the exact midpoint between Jupiter, above, and Neptune, below, and marks the end of the once-in-thirteen year Jupiter-Neptune conjunction that has been so strong since early 2022.

Venus is at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit. This is the Venus Kiss of the Earth, and it can be a particularly magic day for love and intimacy, with both oneself, with others, and with Venus herself. This also marks the beginning of the next Earth-Venus-Sun cycle of time, and it is an important moment to ritualize intentions for this new cycle of intimacy with Venus and the larger solar/lunar system. This may involve going out to look for her first appearance in the morning sky (called the first heliacal rise), and then also looking for the first morning Venus Gate. This Moon-Venus conjunction cannot be seen due to the light of the Sun obscuring its view.

8/16/23 New Moon at 23 degrees Leo

Venus is just 5 degrees ahead of the rising Sun at the exact Moon-Sun conjunction (new Moon) and is not visible.

8/19/23 First visibility of Venus in the morning sky at around 17 degrees Leo

This is called Venus' first heliacal rise, and it has been a celebrated sacred day for thousands of years.

This is also a total solar eclipse, and is called the Great North American Eclipse for the path of totality.

Venus in the Underworld May-July 2024

Now is the long stretch of two to three months when Venus is hidden from the Earth's perspective on the other side of the Sun. This is a deep meditative time for feeling her absence from our skies, and how this is a teaching for how to be during the times when love or beauty or pleasure seem to be absent in our lives. We wait patiently, knowing that Venus will return again to the evening sky, triumphant and reborn. We go out looking for her, and one day, there she is!

3/28/25 Enlightenment Venus Gate at 29 degrees Pisces

This Moon-Venus conjunction cannot be seen due to the light of the Sun obscuring its view. It is particularly potent, though, and both Mercury and Neptune are within one degree below the exact Moon-Neptune conjunction, and Saturn just five degrees above it. This is five planets all within 5 degrees of each other. That's a Super Portal everybody!
